**Introduction** 1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs? Full disclosure, I am filling this out for my parents, not for myself. Thier previous dog was a lovely Siberian Husky female who died at 10 years of age from hemangiosarcoma. 2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a [reputable breeder]( http://ownresponsibly.blogspot.com/2011/07/identifying-reputable-breeder.html )? Mom has a preference for a rescue, dad has a preference for a breeder but would not be opposed to a puppy from a rescue. 3) Describe your ideal dog. Medium-large size, human-oriented, able to walk ~3 miles/day on an average day and join longer hikes/walks on weekends. I want to warn all of you and tell you about a terrible incident that happened to my friends’ Labrador a while back. My friend came home from work to find her dog dead on the kitchen floor with an empty bag of chips stuck around his head. My friend had left an open bag of chips on the counter from the night before. While she was at work, the dog must have jumped up on the counter to get the chips, put his head in the bag and somehow got it sucked in and stuck so he choked. I can’t imagine anything worse than finding your dog like this. So please don’t ever leave open bags of chips lying around the house for your dogs to find. HELLO, CITIZENS OF R/DOGS. IT IS I, OCTAFFLE. I AM QUITE DRUNK AND I HAVE PUT MY WONDERFUL DOG TO BED ON THIS NIGHT OF NIGHTS. GOOOOO SOUPY!!! He is about to shuffle off this mortal coil and yeet himself across the rainbow bridge. Not, like, tomorrow or anything, but soon. He gets a cookie at bedtime normally. Well, I had to buy a new bag with not a whole bag's worth of days left. My little dude is getting SO MANY bedtime cookies now.
