[help] [puppy help] Please help me. I am desperately seeking help with my dog.Dog Talks
I am crying as I write this. Just a little over a week ago I rescued a Jack russell terrier mix puppy. She has already went to a puppy obedience class and was praised for her intelligence.
But she is very aggressive towards my family and I. She has been biting and pulling the kids. She nonstop bites all of us. She also has jumped on my cats and tried to hold them down and bite them.
The trainer and the rescue are saying that she won't kill my cats and she's just playing but I noticed that she is very aggressive and she doesn't listen.
Idk what to do. I've been doing positive reinforcement but it's not working
She even growls at my cats and lunges.
My cats are scared.
Should I get an e collar or muzzle? Please help.
My mom told me she is an aggressive puppy and I should give her back. She growls bites and lunges. She won't stop. I've tried everything.
My cat is scared to death of her.
I recognize that she is aggressive and I'm scared. Help me please.
I love her very much and I want this to work and I'm willing to do everything that I can.
I've reached out to the rescue to ask if any of her littermates have similar behavior but the rescue told me for her age unfortunately she will be teething and biting immensely and rapidly. Tbh, in person, I got the impression something was off a little. Like they knew something I didn't. I could tell by how she looked at me. Everyone else was really excited with giving her littermates away but the girl giving me my puppy seemed off... Idk. Just a weird feeling. I could be wrong.
But I want to walk her twice a day starting tomorrow and reintroducing the puppy and cats slowly overtime again and allowing them to eat together with a gate between them. I also want to feed them all treats together while they sit nicely and calmly.
I'm also going to start training her more mentally and teaching her new tricks.
I also will give her playtime in the back yard for a longer period.
She is very kind to strangers and their dogs. She never ever is out of line. She is very sweet and behaved and happy on her walks.
I want to give her more time.
Maybe she is scared still. I already love her very much.
The trainer also recommended I get her into some program where she can spend time with other puppies to learn biting inhibition.
I was thinking of doing a few puppy power hours. It's free.
What do you all think of an e collar? I read good things online. I wouldn't use it constantly. Only when needed.
Idk. I also feel like my mom was being overdramatic about her mouthing and nipping. She is teething bad. The vet even said that. I'm going to get her new chew toys tomorrow from petco and I'm going to try the frozen chicken broth wash cloth idea.
Ugh. Idk guys. :(
I just didn't like what I saw today with the cat. Idek if she was biting the cat. She could have been kissing but I'm just assuming the worst. My cats fur was wet and the dog was on top of her holding her down. But I feel like if my cat was being bit she would have unleashed her claws. She not a scared cat. She's actually the dominant cat out of my two. She fights the older orange one. My orange cat is used to being around dogs and was excited about the puppy.
I've had puppies before but I don't remember them acting this hyper or being this mouthy. My other two dogs were a doberman lab mix and a american bulldog pitbull terrier mix. They grew to love my orange cat and my orange cat was close with them.
The puppy jumped on top of the orange cat too...
I just can't tell if she's playing or not. But during her bathroom breaks throughout the night my cats follow me to the backyard and watch me and the puppy through the window. When I come in I tell the puppy to sit and be nice and let them smell one another.
I need to figure out how to calm her.
She was in her crate when she growled at my cat but my mom was also messing with her. Like she smacked my puppy for biting her too hard because she's old school in discipling dogs because she said it's the only thing that'll work but I don't want that. I feel like it'll make her aggressive and want to fight. I told her to not do that anymore.
I feel like my family is more stern and strict than me.
I treat the puppy like a baby. I bath her, wipe her butt, she has clothes, she has her nails painted, she has toys and treats... It's just the biting and her chasing and pouncing the cats that bothers me.
She also was jumping at my 5 year old nephew. And pulling him. I don't think she was being aggressive though. Just excited and wanting to play.
I don't think she wants to hurt anyone.
But I can't tell.
