[Fluff] My rescue dog has improved my mental healthDog Talks
Just as the title states, my new rescue dog has done wonders for my mental health.
I had a fairly rough childhood and never really got to be a kid. As a result, I've grown up to be a guarded and anxious adult, somewhat unable to express my feelings as well as I'd like to. 9 months ago, I decided to find a therapist and deal with the things I've been ignoring for most of my life. And then...
My partner and I adopted a rescue dog. She's about 8 or 9 months old and the sweetest, smartest dog I've ever met. Something about being her human, watching her personality blossom, and creating such a strong bond with her has healed the part of my heart that has felt void for so long. It kind of feels like I get to give her the "childhood" that I would've wanted.
Each day, we have a happiness-induced sneezing fit/dance party when we wake up, take nice leisurely walks where she gets to sniff for as long as she pleases, have zoomies with my partner and I, practice obedience/tricks in two languages, sometimes attend Zoom meetings together, and brush our teeth together (aka I brush our teeth lol) every single night. These are probably mundane dog parent things but having her in my life has given me the opportunity to feel unabashed joy for once.
