[Discussion] Unless You Support Puppy Mills - NEVER BUY FROM PUPPYSPOT (I hope mods sticky this as a PSA)Dog Talks

Mods, if you need verification, I am more than happy to give it to you privately.

With the pandemic, there are a lot of lonely folks looking for companionship, and almost everything can be found online/delivered. Including a puppy. Guys, if it looks too good to be true... it really is. Particularly in the case of PuppySpot.

I’ve left this review (below) of puppyspot on several sites already, and I want to leave it here as well to spread the word, so people stop supporting this horrible company.

A close relative of mine was duped into getting a puppy earlier this year, who arrived underweight, with multiple infections and parasites. I did some of my own investigating on the ‘reputable’ breeder the puppy came from, and he is a direct relative of several Amish puppy mill owners— one of which has a 20 year history of animal cruelty charges from his puppy mill practices. I’m certain it’s a family business. The parasites the puppy had often come from living in crowded, filthy conditions. My relative is happy with the puppy despite this, but I am concerned about the long term health of the puppy due to its origins. Puppyspot, you need to work on investigating your breeders better. It took me almost no time at all to uncover loads of disturbing information about this puppy’s breeder/his family. Don’t exploit people’s loneliness like this. Even if that wasn’t the intent, it is the outcome when you don’t actually do your homework on your so-called reputable breeders.

Also, potential buyers — PuppySpot will not give you the breeder name or other key info until the puppy is literally at your doorstep and paid for. The papers only arrive with the puppy. That alone should be a huge red flag.

Just check the employee reviews on indeed.com. The kind, helpful ‘pet consierge’ —who helps you get your puppy— is paid on commission, and gets fired if they fail to sell a certain number of puppies within a particular timeframe, which forces them to rush the puppy sales. Employees mention struggling to meet ‘impossible quotas.’ Employees also allude (or outright confess) to utilizing puppy mills.

Buyer beware. Be patient and adopt from a local shelter, or adopt through petfinder.com shelter networks... or find a local TRULY reputable breeder and remove the middle man. Cut out sketchy, unethical businesses who exploit puppies forced to live in filth, force the mothers to be bred literally to death (one report on the multi-state Amish puppy mill I’d uncovered had, among many other charges, reports of a female breeding dog having a horribly infected prolapsed vagina, which happens from breeding through practically every heat cycle). PuppySpot exploits your family’s loneliness, and exploits innocent animals— either through their willful negligence and greed or complete ineptitude.

You shouldn’t be able to pick out a puppy online as quickly and easily as a pair of shoes. Remember that.

Continue to remember that as you find any of their canned responses to negative consumer reviews all over the Internet. Their concern is more scripted than sincere. The sheer number of people suggesting illnesses one finds PRIMARILY in a puppy mill setting should tell you something. This isn’t an anomaly or one tragic mistake. It just is how they do business, and who they do business with.

PuppySpot, if you’re reading this & attempt to respond to me, I have nothing more to say to you beyond this post. You exploited someone I care about who is otherwise completely alone. Now I have to worry for the next few years if their heart will be broken because you couldn’t actually investigate your breeders properly. You support some very unethical breeders who treat their animals worse than livestock.

You don’t need to know which specific customer my review is about, or which puppy. Just look at all the reviews online (Trustpilot, BBB Customer Complaint section) saying the same things I am. It’s not about THIS puppy. It’s about ALL the sketchy puppy mills you work with. All of these similar complaints say something. I just happen to also have proof of the puppy mill connections in our case. And if I could find it that easily, so can you. You absolutely should have found it. It is inexcusable that you didn’t, and no amount of canned consumer relations responses is going to change that.

And, dear PuppySpot? You can bet I reported you and that breeder to multiple animal welfare services for further investigation.

Do your damn homework, puppyspot. And prospective buyers... just don’t go here. Please.
