[RIP] Mollie, Golden Retriever, 12Dog Talks

Mollie’s been my best friend since I was 5. I can’t believe she’s really gone. I knew it was inevitable in the next few years but I thought we’d get more time with her. I moved across the country three months ago so I didn’t even get to say a final goodbye or witness her burial.

We’re not 100% sure on the exact reason for her death. A couple weeks ago she was put on a steroid for her skin allergies that were resistant to treatment from creams and antibiotics. The first week or so she was doing wonderful. The steroids seemed to help her arthritis as well. The only side effect was that she was pretty thirsty. About 2 weeks in she would refuse to eat some mornings, which was something she never ever did. She loved food. Monday my dad called the vet and they were like “That’s not usually a symptom...call us back on Friday”. Tuesday she was low energy and lethargic. She wasn’t hungry for kibble but had some sausage. By the evening she was extremely lethargic. Unfortunately my dad lives in the bush so the soonest she could see a vet was the next morning. She passed away around 2am that night. She was in my dad’s arms at home when she went, which I’m happy about.

I don’t want to pry too much into the reason for her death, as it will change nothing. But I am curious about her rapid decline. I don’t believe in Heaven but I do believe in the spirit world. I’m happy that now she gets to be free from her arthritis and eat unlimited chicken in the spirit world.
