[RIP] Goodbye Toby, mixed GSD, 14Dog Talks
Early this AM we had to let our sweet german shepherd mix girl Toby have her final rest. She was diagnosed with Lymphoma last year and we treated her with CHOP. She responded very well and had a full life while on chemo. On her first relapse, her oncologist found she also had TCC. We decided to treat as we go as long as Toby’s quality of life would remain high.
She was in excellent health for her age, minus the cancer so her activity level was still high and her oncologist was surprised about how much she walked daily still. But this weekend on Saturday we got one last lap around the park and a final stroll around the neighborhood. Then early Sunday things turned quickly. It was a shock and we are still processing this all. But a part of me is glad it happened this way rather than a slow progression of the lymphoma taking over. I like to think she got to do her last few things she loved and chose her time to rest. She was so tough through all of this. Lots of trips to the clinic and never phased her always bounced back ready to keep living on.
Going into this, we took it treatment by treatment. She responded well to it. We didn’t expect to do as much chemo as Toby did but every time she either had no affect or it would be a day of lethargy and she would be back to her peppy self. This last year and half was an extra special time and I will cherish these memories forever.
If you have any questions about what to expect with the process of treating your dog with CHOP please feel free to ask here or DM me. I learned so much and feel this is something that should be shared to help other owners know what’s right for them to do.
