[Fluff]My dogs aren’t excited to see meDog Talks

I’ve had two dogs over the last fifteen years. They’ve both been my dogs, but neither of them preferred me. My Chihuahua, Millie(RIP) was always more excited to see my mom, and wasn’t bothered at all if I wasn’t around. My current dog, Daisy, prefers my husband. When he comes home she dances around him and wants to be picked up, while I barely get a tail wag. That being said, without fail, if they feel unwell or need something, I have always been the go to person. Millie was a sickly dog and in the last year of her life had two emergency vet visits. Both times, the first clue that something was wrong was her actively seeking me out and asking to come in my room the night before she started showing symptoms (she always slept with my mom). At the time, I thought it was just a coincidence, but looking back I truly believe it was intentional. She didn’t feel right, and she knew that any time she didn’t feel good in the past I was the one who was there to give her what she needed to feel better. Daisy is overall healthier, though she does struggle with allergies. If the water bowl is empty, she comes to me to fill it. At night, I’m the one she curls up with for warmth, despite sharing the bed with my husband. If she needs a toy rescued from under the couch, she gets my attention. If we’re all on a walk together and something scares her, she looks at me for reassurance. I used to feel bad that neither of my dogs were “happy” to see me. It’s probably because I’m the one who handles things like medications, grooming and vet visits, so I’m not always the “fun” one. But I am glad that if something needs fixed or they aren’t feeling well my animals know I’m the one to come to, because I’ll take care of it.
