[Discussion] Vet went from "sometimes dogs have IBS and it's just something they have to live with" to "We need to admit him for an emergency surgery to relax his bowels, btw, that can happen if you don't manage the condition properly"Dog Talks

Of course, I've figured out how to manage it on my own over the last year. I know what he can and cannot eat. I know how much food is too much. All through trial and error because the vets said it's just a thing. But he got into something, probably when my toddler nieces were snacking, and it made him sick. Really sick. He completely passed out, and no amount of shaking, slapping, or screaming at him would wake him up for a solid two minutes. We rushed him to the ER and the emergency vet happened to be the one who said it's no biggie that he gets chronic diarrhea. Now my pup is hooked up to fluids and can't come home until his intestine goes normal again. If it doesn't, he will be admitted into surgery. Now the vet is making plans to get him some special ingredient food and do a lot of testing, all the fun stuff I tried to get them to do in the first place. Sad that we had to get to this point first.
