[Discussion] If your watching someone’s dog, follow. The. Instructions.Dog Talks
I am beyond frustrated right now. This summer, I had my dog stay at my in laws because my husband and I were in the middle of a move, and we couldn’t have a dog at our temporary place. Prior to leaving the dog at the in laws, we had him on a strict feeding schedule twice a day. I told my in laws that he needs to stick to his schedule, or he will over eat. If he free feeds, he will eat way to much. We also told them to keep the treats to a minimum.
Fast forward to the end summer, we go to pick up our dog, and he is overweight. Come to find out, they free fed him, despite my instructions, gave him a lot of table scraps and peanut butter everyday.
Im grateful and all that they watched him, but I am frustrated, because I am now left with an extremely picky eater, and an overweight dog. He used to gladly and happily eat his meals, now all he wants is human food. I can’t get him to eat twice day. He will only eat at the end of the day when he gets hungry enough. I currently am trying the plan where I offer him his normal serving twice a day, if he doesn’t eat, then I put it away and offer it again at his next feeding time. It’s been two weeks and I still can’t get him to eat twice a day, so he’s only been eating about half his calories.
Can we not just take instructions seriously?
