[Discussion] Don't want to leave my dogDog Talks
Hi! This is more of a vent/offmychest but comments are welcome.
TL;DR: I want to move out but I don't want to leave my dog and even if she stays with me part-time I'm afraid it wil negatively impact her.
So a live with my dad and 5 years ago he starting wanting a dog. I always wanted a dog but I never pushed for it because I would move out anyway. So we got a dog but we agreed it would mostly be my dad's dog.
However, I changed my study and went to a college that is really nearby so I stayed at home and I fell completely in love with my dog. She kind of became my dog, but not really. I just spend most time with her and walk her most of the time and take her to the vet etc. However, I'm now 24 and almost done with college and I want to move out but I don't want to leave my dog and I'm worrying about this daily now. I am planning to live in a place that has enough room so my dog can stay with me at least part time when my dad is working (if everything goes well, I will be working freelance and partly from home anyway). But I still feel it might be bad for her. Before us she had 4 previous homes and she's afraid of strangers and she's happiest when both me and my dad are home. I don't want her to miss one of us or be afraid in a new home or whatever. I also don't want to miss too much time with her. And how would it be for her to be continuously going back and forth between places? I love her so much and I really want her to be happy but I feel that moving out would only negatively impact her but I am so ready to live on my own, preferably before 25.
And I don't think moving with me permanently would be fair to her (or my dad) either, because now she has a house and a garden which is great.
I know there isn't really a perfect solution but maybe people could relate or something. It's just something that's been worrying me for a while so I wanted it of my chest.
That said, if someone happened to have a research paper that proves that dogs love switching between places and that they're super aware that/when they'll see their other favourite persons again because coincidentally they're completely aware of the concept of time that'd be great.
