What should I do if I think my dog has eaten a grape/grapes?
As the main cause of death is kidney failure the signs to look out for are:
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
( these occur as a first signs as the dog attempts to rid the body of the poison )
This in turn leads to tiredness and lethargy and then dehydration as the bodies loses essential fluids.
Signs of Dehydration are:
Heavy Panting
Trouble breathing
Dry nose and mouth
Light coloured gums
Also things to look out for is your dogs refusal to eat, whining and hiding, this may be a sign of abdominal pain.
If you think that your dog may be in trouble from Grape poisoning get in touch with a veterinarian (VET) as soon as possible as early treatment may save your dog from death, but unfortunately it may not totally recover and may have lasting kidney problems.
Bottom line:
Do not ever feed your dogs Grapes or Raisins!!!
There are many other fruits and vegetables you can feed your dogs just research them.
