Caution when adopting dogs from a Rescue centre.

Rescue Centre Adoption Dogs.
This may be seen as controversial but when thinking about adopting your next dog from the Rescue centre how many people actually take the time to understand why the dog is there in the first place. I am going on experience here as I used to do one - one  house visits, training dogs with ' behavioral ' issues. Now I also understand that not all dogs are the same and that a lot of dogs have successfully been rehomed and the Rescue centres really try to do their best,  but I can hand on heart say that 85- 95% of my client's were having issues with newly rescued/adopted/rehomed dogs...just take a moment...to digest that information...85-90%, ok some were new owners, first time dog people and some of the dogs were puppies, but in the main, the rest were adults.
When I asked if the dogs came with any information about previous life experiences the answer was invariably 'no' but the staff at the centre says he/she was lovely and great with other dogs/kids/cats/people etc??? What??How would the staff know if they didn't have any previous knowledge about them? Having a dog in kennels and playing with/walking them around a pound/yard for a few weeks will not  give a true feel for how the dog behaves ordinarily,  especially when settled.
Often times, the reason the dog was originally abandoned by the first owners is because the dog was a problem to them, obviously not blaming the dogs here, with this generally being the case, then that dog just gets passed on with all the same issues and often new ones to the unsuspecting new adopting people. So a cautious note, before you adopt, try to visit more than once to see the dog of choice in as many situations as possible, try to observe the body language of the dog, also don't forget a problem dog does not have to be aggressive, a bouncy hyper dog that doesn't focus can be as much trouble. Ask as many questions as you can about previous owners/life experiences and if you think the staff are giving bs answers walk away.
